Sourcing Details:
The bulk of Rwanda’s coffee processing is based on a centralized washing station system. The harvest starts on small family owned farms where coffee is cultivated on just a few acres of land usually intercropped with soy beans. These farmers deliver their harvested cherries to a modern washing station, which alleviates the expense and risk of processing themselves.
Processing Details:
This particular lot was produced at a washing station in the Burera District run by Easy Way ltd, which was established in 2023. This area of the Northern Province was largely known for potato production until 2020 when Easy Way began investing in a coffee seedling project aimed at providing a new income source in the region. Fast forward a few years later and the new group of more than 850 local coffee farmers are seeing their first harvests along with access to a washing station where they can sell their harvested cherries. Processing at the Burera washing station includes hand sorting and floating cherries to remove damaged or underdeveloped coffee. Cherries are then dried on raised beds with regular movement to ensure even drying.
